Introduction to the Sambangan Secret Garden
The Aling Aling Waterfall is part of the Sambangan Secret Garden. Located in Northern Bali, 15 minutes away from Singaraja, the Garden spots one of the best kept secret of Bali. Aling Aling waterfall is famously known as one of the grand Northern Bali waterfalls, but less visited compared to its bigger counterparts such as Sekumpul Waterfall.
You cannot swim, jump or slide in Aling Aling Waterfall itself. All the activities are actually on the waterfalls after Aling Aling that is inclusive in the tour package starting from short to long trekking tour. In the Sambangan Secret Garden, you can visit many waterfalls, 2 slides, jump heights from 5m, 10m and 15m and swim in the calm clear waters.
While lacking in height, the area shines in the numerous beautiful waterfalls and activities you can find here. A fusion of tranquility and electrifying thrill, the Aling Aling waterfall and Sambangan Secret Garden is perfect for all. Truly my favorite waterfall in Bali and a must visit waterfall adventure if you are visiting Northern Bali.

Wear swimming costume or a bathing suit to Aling Aling Waterfall as you sure would want to get a taste of the fun splashing in the fresh and clear water! Wear something like a tshirt and shorts that can dry quickly if you prefer. Definitely put on waterproof sunscreen to protect your skin from harmful UV rays! I highly recommend wearing water shoes to protect your feet as you will be stepping on rocks and pebbles.

What to do in Aling Aling Waterfall?
1. Aling Aling Waterfall
magnificent views
Boasting a majestic height of 30m, the Aling Aling waterfall can only be admired from a distance. Visitors are not allowed to walk too close. Strong current and steep terrain renders it unsafe for visitors to be too near. However, even as you admire the falls from the platform, the droplets of water can still be felt through the distance. There is a short platform to get closer and snap the perfect shot here. In a quiet crowd, there is no queue to admire this beauty.
As a result, the lush green view is untouched, framing a picture-perfect greenery and crystal clear waters. A short hike along a stream to get here is perfectly serene, equally scenic and gorgeous and totally worth it.
2. Kroya Waterfall
thrilling 10m waterfaljump and waterfall slide
The first waterfall to greet you as you descend down the stairs is the Kroya Waterfall. Chatter and excitement builds up instantaneously as you watch many daredevils jumping off the 10m platform and all the thrill-seekers sliding down the Kroya waterfall into the plunge pool. Regardless of whether you are afraid of heights or an adrenaline-filled teenager who has jumped countless times, the view even from the sitting area is beautiful and calming.
Sliding down Kroya waterfall is safe too. All visitors who came with a guide will be asked to wear a life vest as a safety precaution, even if you can swim. The guide will also help you get to the top up the steep steps. And if you request for it, you can get an extra speed boost to slide down the natural waterfall. The refreshing cool blue water is also perfect to soak your feet in or go for a little splash. Due to the mountainous terrain, it is usually colder in the Northern part of Bali.
For the younger children or those who want to warm up before sliding down the big Kroya waterfall, the small corner at the end of Kroya waterfall is the perfect spot to start. The mini waterfall is short and gentle, making the slide down to the pool slow and breezy. The plunge pool also has a 5m jumping spot, perfect for the timid but FOMOs to check off the jumping activity on the trail.
3. Kembar Waterfall
daredevil 15m waterfall jump
Kembar which means twin in Bahasa Indonesia, spots 2 adjacent narrow waterfalls gushing down strong streams of water side by side. Here, the biggest daredevils jump from a height of 15m down to the plunge pool for immense thrill. The rush of gushing waters boost an adrenaline rush more than ever.
Personally I did not dare to jump here because the plunge pool looks very scary. But I will do it if I ever get a chance to visit this gem again. #manifest
4. Pucuk Waterfall
chill and relaxing waterfall swim
The last and bottom-most waterfall is the Pucuk Waterfall. Pucuk, which means tip or peak, rounds up the Sambangan Secret Garden waterfall series. It has a calm and wide plunge pool that is perfect for a swim. A swing is also available to take the perfect Instagram shots set up by the locals. A splendid spot to take cute photos and play around in the shallower parts of the water. The plunge pool gets deep in the middle section, so always keep a lookout for your own safety.
Flexing range, the Sambangan Secret Garden is giving the complete vibe. From chill to heart thumping jumps and slides, it’s got it all.
Experience
The fresh cool waters are absolutely perfect for a refreshing and rejuvenating swim. Truly unlike the other waterfalls in Bali which does not have a big plunge pool. Here, the area is big. Coupled with the fact that not many tourists visit the northern parts of Bali, visitors are generally more spread out. Many times we did have the waterfall to ourselves. Taking photos were a breeze so go crazy with all your poses. The rocks and steps are very slippery, so do be careful at all times. Also, the waterfalls are very rocky too, and thankfully, I never go anywhere without my trusty water shoes.
I absolutely love this garden so much. Thankfully the rain cleared out for me to insist going here because I was about to give up due to the bad weather. Everything that I love is here- adventure, clear waters, magnificent waterfalls, swimming area and hidden gems to take cute photos. If anyone asked me which waterfall you must visit, it is this! Tons of fun and no regrets!

Tour Guide
Duration
The package price is slightly steeper compared to the entrance only ticket. Even so, I believe that my guide did a wonderful job in bringing us around and ensuring our safety throughout my time in the waterfalls. There is no limit to how many times we can jump or slide too! Several tourists did not engage the tour guide but still went ahead with the activities.
Despite that, the guides were very helpful and kept an eye on them to ensure their safety as well. It was totally worth it to get the guide because not only was he kind and friendly, he was also very helpful in looking out for my safety and guiding my uncles and aunties through the stairs up and down the waterfall.
Should I Get A Guide?
Countless times I needed them more than I thought I would. My uncle slipped on the slippery rocks and fell into the water at one point, and the guide helped him out while I was panicking at the side. On top of that, amazingly helpful to have them keep a lookout for your safety, steps and your belongings even though Bali is largely safe.
The villagers manages all the natural attractions in Bali. It just felt right to support them in providing the young people a little gig and entrance fee payment to maintain the cleanliness and safety of the area. In fact, I think it is quite irresponsible to not get a guide when doing these activities. Even when they are not engaged by some people, the guides will still go out of their way to keep an eye on everyone.
A poor guide struggling to keep an eye on a family with 2 children in the shallow pool and 2 tourists who did the activities without engaging any guide. I had to tell my guide to help him out in case the kids fell or something. An injury or even death brings about a bad reputation to the attraction. Everyone had a sense of heighten alert to prevent unwarranted accidents. Us visitors have a responsibility to adhere to safety rules too.
I have not heard of an Aling Aling waterfall death case thus far, but seeing the area, you may fall and hurt yourself if you are reckless. Do exercise caution at all times whether you are a seasoned hiker or a newbie!
Tipping is not compulsory. Nevertheless, I like to tip them a little more as the package payment has to be shared by more stakeholders in management. Especially so if they did a great job. They totally deserve that extra cup of coffee if we can afford to give. Areas with guides are often not without reason. So support them if you can (:
