Step 1: Choose Where to Get Your Ingredient
There are 2 options when it comes to getting your desired seafood ingredients – buying from the Kedonganan market or ordering straight from the any one of the Jimbaran beach seafood restaurant.
Buying from Kedonganan Market
Buying from the Kedonganan market gives you the power to select the freshest ingredients and bargain for the best price. Some stalls allow buying a smaller quantity like 200-500g for seafood like prawns, squid and clams. Fishes, crabs and lobsters have to be purchased in whole and priced by weight.
After shopping, you can bring your ingredients to any restaurant and get them to cook for you at Rp 20,000 per KG for grill, and more for other cooking styles like deep fried with batter. This maximizes the bang for your buck, but you do have to wait a longer cooking time of at least 1 hour.
Buying Directly From Restaurants
Alternatively, you can walk straight into the Jimbaran beach seafood restaurant and purchase whatever stock they have in store. In some restaurants, some seafood may not be available due to limited stock as most people buy ingredients themselves. If that happens, simply walk over to the store next to it to try your luck.
This typically cost at least 3x more than buying from the Kedonganan market. But if you can’t stand the wet market smell without feeling pukey (like me, unfortunately) or are pressed for time and looking for convenience, this will be a great alternative. You can order individual portions for each seafood, or a platter for 2,4 and up to 10 pax filled with an array of seafood choices. The plater cost at least Rp 150,000 for 2 pax and more if you select the ones with crab or lobster.
Where To Buy Pros and Cons
Kedonganan Market | Direct from Restaurant |
---|---|
Cheaper Ingredients | More Expensive |
Effort to Choose Ingredients | Fuss Free |
Longer waiting time (>1hr) | Shorter waiting time |
Step 2: Choose Your Cooking Style
For each of the ingredients, you can choose the style of dish you want. You can even split the same seafood, to 2 different dishes to try the best of both worlds! For example, a portion of prawns can be split into grilled and deep fried with batter. The most popular and cheapest option is grill. Don’t be afraid to try grilled shellfish too like clams and crabs. They taste amazing and definitely thoroughly cooked through the shells. Some restaurants might have a steam option, but I’ve personally never tried that.

Step 3: Choose your seat and Feast
Obviously, you have to choose a seat on the beach to get the complete seafood by the bay experience. This becomes a huge deciding factor for the Jimbaran beach seafood restaurants as well. Some restaurants allow you to make a Whatsapp reservation too. It is usually very crowded at dinner time so I recommend getting down at 5PM.
With all that hard work, it is now time to sit back, enjoy the breeze, and wait for the scrumptious feast to arrive.
Restaurant Recommendations
Warung Made Jasa Bakar & Masak
Although this warung does not provide a seaview seat, the flavors are unbeatable. The best tasting out of all, the smokiness of the grill is so rich yet the meat still so tender and juicy. The Balinese sauce (bumbu Bali) is a fantastic blend of sweet and a tinge of spicy. All the seafood cooked by them are simply mouth watering masterpieces.
The downside is that you have to buy the seafood from Kedonganan market as they do not have any seafood stock. The warung is also very small and you have to be early to secure seats for your party. The warung doesn’t have a Google Maps location but it is the first one on the left as you enter the Kedonganan market.

Kampoeng Seafood
This restaurant is one of the beachside Jimbaran beach seafood restaurants you can go to get your seafood fix. It is one of the few along the beach that offers wifi too. The cooking from this restaurant is amazingly consistent and I love that the seafood never gets overcooked even when it’s peak hour. The sauce is very rich and smooth with a tinge of spiciness and sweetness. The sambal Kangkong (water spinach with chili) is super crunchy and leafy too. The sauce soaks the vegetables well. Special shoutout to their chili as well!
